Mission Self Love -installation in Studio Mustanapa, Rovaniemi 2020
The video is shot in my home town Joutseno in South Karelia in Finland. When I was a child I saw a dream. I was in a familiar scenery in the center of Joutseno. It was summer and very dark and warm almost hot like I was in Mars in the Total Recal even though I was just in my familiar block house neighbourhood. Instead of streets there was fields of crops and I was swimming in it like I was in a sea. The mood of the dream was at the same time safe and familiar, but also exciting weird and even little bit scary.

I remembered this dream after making this short sketch 20 years later. The process of loving yourself or becoming able to love yourself can be little bit like this dream. There is some familiarity, I guess everybody loves oneself in some degree it´s part of our self preservation instinct. But when going further in problematics of loving our selves it can also be scary and exciting.
I’m intrigued about love as a verb, as an action,
that could first of all be targeted at one self
and after that into the environment.
